We are looking for a strategic, highly analytical and collaborative team player, with broker compensation experience, to lead the Producer Portfolio Management (PPM) Compensation team in Enterprise Sales Effectiveness.

The PPM Compensation team works closely with Segment leadership, Local markets, Sales, and the Producer Relations and Reporting teams to strategically project, design, administer and report on supplemental compensation programs.  The programs encompass both group and health care business as well as cross-sell initiatives and are targeted to support growth and retention of business by rewarding desired broker behavior.

The right candidate will be able to strategically lead supplemental compensation initiatives as well as develop relationships with both internal and external partners to influence and drive the next generation of compensation programs, systems, and support.

Must be available to travel as needed (up to 20%).  Ideally located in Philadelphia.


Ensure supplemental compensation programs are appropriately administered and that key information is reported in an accurate and timely manner.

Develop and maintain Administration Manual, including documentation of best practices, standards, process and procedure to ensure continuity and consistency of operations.

Establish operational measures to inform leadership of program performance and effectiveness (e.g. managing program to budget, timeliness and accuracy of payments and reports)

Work with the Producer Analytics team and other Cigna partners to design accurate, comprehensive, and integrated broker reporting for Producer Relations, Sales, and Producers that can be delivered within meaningful timeframes.

Approve payments up to designated dollar amount.

Provide training, coaching and mentoring to direct reports and team members; educate the broader team on the various broker compensation components and how their role contributes to effective program performance and administration.

Present year over year analysis of supplemental program performance, collaborate with senior leaders to understand goals, make strategic recommendations to drive desired behavior within established budget, attain collective approval, measure, and report results through-out the year.

Lead collaboration across PPM teams on the design, tracking and measurement of compensation plans that drive appropriate producer behaviors.

Provide guidance on modeling of contract scenarios based on a finite number of variables that are shown to drive behavior.

Incorporate optimal output of scenarios into clear, effective contracts that maximize budget dollars and broker behavior.

Establish rapport with Local markets, Sales, Producer Relations, Underwriting, Finance, and Product Development teams to understand supplemental compensation marketplace and financial drivers; use this information to maximize program design and effectiveness.

Work with PPM analytics team to provide in-depth analysis of the competitive landscape; summarize key market differentiators and potential risks for targeted markets, including recommendations and corresponding financial impact.

Work with Broker Intelligence resource to identify marketplace trends and threats and determine what adjustments may be needed to remain and lead competitively.

Evaluate non-standard contract requests and coordinate approval process; engage legal in new arrangements.

Continuously research, review, and refine operations and programs to maximize program and team effectiveness – current initiatives include but are not limited to the following:

    • Integrate the group and healthcare teams, working with Subject Matter Experts to document process and procedure, cross-train, and ensure quality controls are established and effectively monitored
    • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and implement changes to streamline and automate
    • Simplify and consolidate supplemental programs into meaningful variances that meet market and broker drivers yet minimize administration
    • Support the development of a producer compensation platform that provides integrated program modeling, payment and reporting of compensation programs
    • Develop an integrated compensation program (group and healthcare)


Education/ Training

Bachelor’s degree is required – Mathematics, Engineering, Actuarial, Finance or similar

Process training is a plus (e.g. Six Sigma, Lean)

Experience/ Knowledge

Minimum of five years health care experience, including an understanding of both group and health products as well as the underlying data is required

Minimum of three years people management experience required

Thorough understanding of or direct experience with producer compensation programs is required

Experience with Sales, brokers and consultants is highly desired

Minimum three years project management experience including requirements gathering and analysis require

Experience with contracting (writing, negotiating) is preferred

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel is required

Experience in financial analysis is preferred.

Basic knowledge of SQL is desired.

Knowledge of relational data structures is desired.

Proficiency with data extraction tools (e.g. Hyperion, Cognos tools, SPSS) is desired.

Experience with BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlikview) is desired.

Experience with workflow optimization is desired.
